Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide bedding?

Of course! We provide all bedding, including luxurious sheets, pillows, down comforter, and blankets.

Do you provide towels and toiletries?

We always provide washcloths and hand towels. When the seasonal outdoor showers are operational (May through October), we provide fluffy towels, spa robes, sandals, and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

Is firewood provided?

You bet! We provide firewood both for the wood-stove inside the tent and for the fire pit outside. 

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am. Depending on availability, we may be able to offer an early check-in or a late check-out for a $25 fee.

How far are the camps from the parking area?

Each camp is about a 4-5 minute walk from the parking area along a gravel path. We will greet you and shuttle you and your things to camp for both check-in and check-out. If you or your partner have mobility issues, we are happy to provide the shuttle throughout your stay.

Are additional people accommodated at camp? What about kids or babies?

We designed this experience as a getaway for maximum two adults. We cannot accommodate kids or babies at this time.

Are there cooking facilities?

We do not provide any cooking facilities. Guests are welcome to bring ready-made food, take-out, or their own camping stove. We also have a small-but-decadent room service menu (further details with your reservation confirmation). We provide an electric kettle and pour-over coffee maker as well as fresh coffee.

Is there electricity at the camp?

Yes! The camps are battery-powered and there are outlets to charge your devices and electric lighting. No hot tools (hair dryers, etc) or electric heaters, please! 

How about running water and a flushing toilet?

The camps are totally totally off-grid and there is no running water and therefore no flushing toilet. We use composting toilets that are immaculate and effective with no odor. We provide water for the safari sinks in the bathroom, drinking water in the tent, and the outdoor shower. We will replenish your supply as many times as needed.  Our seasonal outdoor showers (available May to October) have hot, running water. 

Is there cell-service? Wi-Fi?

Miraculously, there is excellent cell service in the glade! We do not have Wi-Fi at Highwood Retreat.

How many camps are there?

There are two unique camps in our secluded glade. Our third camp will be opening Spring 2025. Follow our Instagram (@highwoodretreat) for updates!

​What is the cancellation policy?

Due to the small size of our retreat, last minute cancellations do affect us considerably. Cancellations within seven days and no-shows will be charged the full amount of the stay. There is a 3% processing fee on all cancellations.
